One Last Summer Stitch

Hanging on to the last couple of days of Summer here... so I thought I'd get in one more Summer themed stitch...

~*Strawberry Sampler*~
a design by Betty Dekat of primitivebettys

I stitched this on a scrap of Carlson Craft Light Oatmeal 14 ct Aida that I found while sorting through my stash. Charted DMC threads were used, but I stitched 2 threads of floss over 1 thread of the Aida. Backed with a red wool and stuffed firm with wool snippets, this Summer pinkeep finished up at 4" x 8".

So... if you feel the need to get in one last Summer stitch... and would like a chance to win the pattern for this pinkeep... then please let me know by leaving a comment on this post. If you are a "no reply blogger", please mention your email in the comment as well.

On Monday, September 2nd... I'll announce the winner of this Strawberry Sampler pinkeep pattern... share with you all a picture of my first Autumn stitch of the year... AND... I may just find something else to give away...

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Wisdom House Block 6

Way back in February 2011, I started a BOM titled "Wisdom House". It's a Jan Patek design. As with most stitchy projects, (especially BOM's) I got distracted. Now I'm back to finishing up all the stuff that I started... before beginning something new.

This is Block #6 of 12. It finishes up at 27" x 12". A bit wonky. But, I am still learning.

When I first started this BOM... it was because I had absolutely no experience in quilting or applique and wanted this big project spoon fed to me... lol! Well, two years and a few Youtube videos later... the practice is getting easier as I've tried a couple of different techniques. This latest method is being taught by Jan Patek herself. She recently made a few videos and posted them on Youtube. Click here to take a look.

Thanks for visiting!

When Hobbies Collide

You all know my hubby enjoys his radios... and I enjoy my wool... and when his radios need protection from my rusty treasures... it's wool and thread to the rescue!

That radio guy's preferred brand is Zenith. So, I found a logo online and transferred that to some black wool... and then stitched that to a neutral colored background wool... backed it with tea dyed cotton and blanket stitched the edges with a valdani pearl cotton. Finished size is 12" x 24"

The weather has been splendid perfection the last couple of days... so, I've been taking care of some outside stuff when the sun is shining... and when the evening comes, I've been continuing to sort through my stash... found a cross stitch pattern that I forgot I had... well, once I remembered I had it, I could not get it out of my mind... so, I'm stitching on that! Almost finished... so check back soon!

Until next time... stay heathy & keep on smiling!

Hand Quilting & Thank You

Happy Sunday everyone! We are past that awful heat wave and enjoying some drier air and gorgeous sunshine! Love it! Some evenings flirt with the upper 50's... a taste of comfortable, cozy autumn... ahhhhhhhh... :-)

A couple years back I made my first mini quilt and hand quilted it. I was sure that I had remembered everything I knew about hand quilting and binding... but soon learned that I had remembered the WRONG way to do it! lol! So, after some sore hands and fingers on the hand quilting, and some ripping of seams on the binding... I finally finished up my leaves runner!

"Pretty In Leaves" Table Runner
kit by Laundry Basket Quilts
Finishes at 21" x 42"
Hand quilted with Aurifil 50 wt. cotton thread
Warm & Natural Wool Batting

I tried some big stitch quilting this time... starting with outlining the applique. I then moved on to just some straight stitching in the border and finished up with following the lead of the checkers on the border, and cross hatched the background.

As with every new technique I try and learn... I have conversations with myself that "this is too involved", "this hurts my hands", "this takes too long", "boy, I'm never doing this again".... only to wind up being happy with the end result and looking forward to starting a similar project real soon!!! :-) Do you go through that same process? I'm pretty sure that once I get enough practice at it, these new techniques will become second nature and the whole start to finish will be most enjoyable...

If you'd like to try one of these runners yourself... you can visit Laundry Basket Quilts website. It's in the fabric kits section. The leaf applique pieces are laser cut and pre-fused... and the background and squares are cut to size... pretty much sit and stitch! :-)

And last, but not least... I'd like to give a huge *T*H*A*N*K* *Y*O*U* to everyone that visited and bid on my auctions last week! I'm glad that all of those great patterns are going to folks that will actually stitch them up! :-) I did list more this week. If you're interested... click here to see if there is anything you'd like to add to your "must stitch" collection. I do still like the designs... I just have more patterns than I'll ever have time to complete... and, I'm sure I'm not alone in that scenario! lol!

Until next time... stay healthy & keep on smiling!
