Ohio Treasure

Here's what I've been stitching on for the past couple-three weeks!

It's an adaptation of an original sampler that is part of a collection of the Wisconsin Historical Society. www.wisconsinhistory.org

In keeping with my "use up what I have and not ordering new to finish a project" I stitched this on 30ct R&R Cafe Kona. I started out using the Gentle Arts Threads that were charted... if I did not have that, I used the DMC substitution (offered in the chart). And, when I ran short of the GA I started with... I continued on with the DMC... dare I say if I had neither the GA or DMC I substituted a close look-alike? lol!  So, I guess that keeps up with the art of make do... ;-)

The stitched area finishes up at about 8" x 15". I haven't put much thought into how I will frame this. There is a finishing suggestion included in the pattern... I am just still thinking on a few details... I might want to build my own frame... or, I might get lazy and see if a framer can think of something (but, that costs money)... lol! Time will tell... it's been ironed... and now I'll roll it up and tuck away safely until the frame epiphany happens... ;-)

I've been taking a serious look at my stash of hobby stuff... particularly my cross stitch and quilting patterns. I came to the realization that my ambitions far exceed my time allowances... and decided to list quite a few patterns on eBay... all starting at 99 cents... click HERE to see if you "need" any of them! lol! I'll be listing more after these... so check back often!

Time to get back to finishing the projects I had started... some quilty stuff should be appearing here soon...

Until next time... stay healthy & keep on smiling!

Daisies and Leaves

A few posts back I had written that I was the lucky winner of Anne's Cottons 'n Wool giveaway. The prize was a kit of Primitive Gathering's penny rug design called "Just Picked". Well... even though I had mentioned in my last post that I was going to finish everything I had already started before starting a new project... I could not resist starting AND finishing this little piece...

After all, who can resist daisies in a classic ball jar during the Summer months?!? This runner finishes up at about 18" x 8"... so, a nice size for a summer table setting. I'm sure you all already know... but the wool that Primitive Gatherings puts in their kits is so soft and beautifully dyed... a real pleasure to stitch with! The instructions in the pattern are clearly written too... and there is usually a tip or two to make the prep process that much easier! :-) Sooooo... a huge thanks to Anne for picking me as the winner of your giveaway! And also another huge thanks to Lisa Bongean for sharing her talents... I absolutely adore this design!!!! :-)

Yesterday I made some progress on the Pretty In Leaves Runner. I sat at the ol' Kenmore and played with some of the stitch settings. Since it is an older machine, it does not have too many fancy stitches. In fact, none of them really work as an applique stitch. So, I decided to straight stitch just inside the edge... in hopes that after a few washes, the edges of the leaves will curl up and give them a softer look.

I had originally wanted to hand blanket stitch around these appliques, but the fusible web that's on these pieces made the fabric a bit too stiff for my hands to get the needle through comfortably. Maybe on my next project with these pre-fused lovlies (called Silhouettes) I can try a different needle... or a better thimble...

Learn by doing.

Until next time... Stay Healthy and Keep On Smiling!

When I was a kid... I LOVED Summer... we had an above ground pool in our backyard... and from sun up to sun down... you could always find me there... swimming, tanning while floating around on a raft, jogging around the edges and making a whirl pool... staying cooooooool. Well... I don't have a pool in my backyard anymore... so, Summer is no longer high on my list of favorites.... lol! Our Summer right now is very hot, swampy humid and full of ferocious attack mosquitoes... please... bring me back some Spring (which I was so very much enjoying while it was here)... or, send along some crisp Autumn breezes...

I am very grateful that we have a couple of window air conditioners that keep our main floor pretty cool during these days. So, I stay close to one and stitch... I've been stitching on this "Cat & Mouse Pinkeep & Slipper" (a design by Stacy Nash) for about a month (on and off). The solid area of the cat took some time. Then the 3 pieces sat for about a week because I was afraid I would ruin the piece that was stitched for the front of the slipper. This was a first try at a slipper... and I can say that it went rather smoothly.

The linen I used is a 35ct WDW Cappuccino. It's the linen I had won from Carolina Stitcher's giveaway a little while back. It's so easy to stitch on and the color of it has a perfect antique glow about it! Thanks so much Faye! This was a great linen for this design! I also substituted most of the threads on this piece. I'm trying dearly to use up what I have and only order new when absolutely necessary.

And lastly, although a little bit late, I did finish the July Wool Banner. It went rather quickly as there weren't a lot of small pieces or specialty stitches... I guess you could say it was "smooth sailing"... lol! ;-)

Many more projects in the works... I'm trying to finish the projects that I have started before I start anything new... so look forward to seeing progress pictures on my piecing of the Snow Days quilt and applique of the Wisdom House quilt (both of those started in 2011)... hand quilting of the Pretty in Leaves Runner and hand quilting of the Primitive Gatherings Sheep mini quilt... then, I just might hook a rug... :-)

Until next time... Stay Healthy & Keep on Smiling!
