Easter and Spring Stitches

Happy Spring to ya'! Yes, it's just the calendar that says it's Spring here... we're still waiting on the weather to notice the calendar? lol! We did have some heavy rains the last two days... and warmer temps arriving this week. So, the grass should start greening up and the flowers should start to poke their rested heads out of the soil... any... day... now... :-)

In the meantime, I've been stitching up some flowers! The first one is a Stacy Nash design. It was originally offered as a class project for Country Sampler's 2010 "Willows and Early Blooms". After the class was finished, there were a couple of kits leftover... so Country Sampler offered them for sale. I was SUPER excited to be able to buy one, as I loved the design... but, could not travel all the way to Spring Green, Wisconsin to attend the class.

The kit consisted of a fabric covered box with stitched design on the inside of the lid, a stitched drum pinkeep topped with a bundle of velvet carrots, and some fabric eggs...

I ran out of stuffing... that's why you don't see the fabric eggs in the picture... methinks it would be nicer if the Easter Bunny would place some chocolate eggs in the box on Easter morning... ;-)

And, I also had some fun stitching up some wool flower pinkeeps for the giveaway I had on St. Patrick's Day...

The design is from the freebie (with additional purchase) that Primitive Gatherings had offered in December.

And finally... if anyone is interested in purchasing some quilt kits, I have a few listed on eBay HERE. There are three Jan Patek kits all with the original fabric lines (which are difficult to find now)... one Primitive Gatherings design (includes Snowman Gatherings fabric and their hand dyed woolens)... and one Country Quilts Wool Applique design that was kitted (with flannels and hand dyed woolens) by Primitive Gatherings.

I still have two more cross stitch projects in progress... and then there's always the Tavern House Wool Quilt that I'm stitching along with Pam (no blog)... and of course, who can resist a few punchneedle pieces too? ;-) More pics of projects to coming soon!

Until next time... stay healthy & keep on smiling!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Share the luck! That's what I always say... and I was lucky enough to have enjoyed two nice wins over the last couple of months...

The first being in December when Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings was posting her Favorite Things for Quilters (on her blog). I was the lucky winner of a Layer Cake of her fabric line "Floral Gatherings"! The colors are so much softer and primitive than any picture I've seen of them on the internet. You really have to see them in person...

The second win was from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. Moda had a Spell It With Fabric blog hop where each designer was assigned a letter to piece into a block. Naturally, Edyta's letter was "L", which she pieced using her new "Jelly Bean" fabric line from Moda. You can see her block HERE.  I was the lucky winner of a very generous fabric bundle (24 fat quarters) of "Jelly Bean"! The colors and designs in this fabric are gorgeous! Half of me can not wait to get piecing these fabrics into a quilt, and half of me is afraid to cut into them! lol! Either way, they are so pretty and remind me of Spring!

Also, in the upper left corner of this picture is a sneak peek of one of the small stitcheries I have been working on. I was hoping to have a finish to show you today, but time is much faster than my needle! ;-)

And so... because the luckiest of clovers has 4 leaves... I've chosen 4 winners for the giveaway here!

(Kathy) Troublesome Creek Quilts
(Annie) Scrappalachia
(Jayne) High Upon The Hill
(Julia) Of Petals And Wool

Congratulations ladies! Please email me your mailing address, and I will send a little something out to each of you by the end of this month!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Rugs, Redware and Quiltmania

I was lucky enough to be able to attend our local rug guild's monthly meeting yesterday... lucky because #1, it did NOT snow (as it did in February which caused the meeting to be cancelled)... lucky because #2, we had an excellent lecture on the history of redware... and lucky because #3, there were some gorgeous rugs in progress and for show & tell... so let's get the pictures going here...

Here are some beautiful examples of redware... some are antique, some are made recent and one piece was even handmade by one of our members!
We learned about how the pieces are made...
We learned about the early pieces being for necessary and the later pieces being "just for nice"...
We learned about "slip" and "scraphito" as being the techniques used to decorate each piece...
Then we learned how to hook rugs to resemble redware designs... got redware wool? ;-)
A lucky treat for every meeting is getting to see what the members have been hooking...

A stained glass rug...
This gal has only been hooking for a year...
This was being hooked as a gift for a family member...
 Thoughts of Spring...
This is another grand tavern sign hooked rug brought to you by the famous Karl & Mary Jo Gimber team...
And this handsome fellow is being hooked by the club's President... so much shading and details.... I could almost hear him breathing! ;-)
So that was my lucky and fun Friday out and about in Flemington, NJ! It really is a treat to have clear roads to travel on... so that we can safely go see the beauty this world has to offer!

For those of you who are fans of Quiltmania publications, I have a few listed on eBay... click HERE to take a peek!

I have about 3 (or so) small projects in progress here... a cross stitch (or two)... a wool applique... a punchneedle piece... and a fun and unique pinkeep (the kit just arrived at my doorstep yesterday... lol)... so leave a comment here on this post... and YOU just might be the LUCKY winner of a mystery giveaway here... winner (or winners) to be announced on the luckiest day of the year... Monday, St. Patrick's Day!

Have a beautiful weekend!
