Pretty In Leaves

Sooooo... back to practice, practice, practice...

Here is some progress on a runner kit that I am using as more practice. This one is going to be practice for piecing, "Silhouettes" and hand quilting. I purchased this as a pre-cut kit from Laundry Basket Quilts. All the squares, triangles and center piece are all pre-cut... and the backing and binding fabrics are cut and ready to go too. The "Silhouettes" are the leaves... they are shapes that are laser cut and pre-fused. All you need to do is peel off the paper backing, position it where you want it, iron it down to fuse into place... and then either hand or machine stitch the edges. I plan on hand stitching these leaves.... but, just thought I'd share an update with you as to how it's going so far....

Well... looks pretty good from a distance... but, I can see where some of the pieces don't quite line up. I'm sure it's my lack of practice with triangles... and I'm even beginning to think some of my issues might be with pressing. I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a pressing board with horizontal lines on it... that way I'll know immediately if I distort the shapes when I open and finger press... I do follow with a "press" of a dry iron... no pushing it around on the fabric...

Practice, practice, practice...

Time to hand stitch those leaves...

Until next time... stay healthy and keep on smiling!

Bloglovin'

Easy. Peasy.

With Google Reader leaving us in only a few days... I thought it was time for me to sign on to Bloglovin'... so I did just that yesterday. You would not believe how easy it is! I was happy to see that part of the Bloglovin' sign on process was the automatic transferring of all of the blogs I followed with Google Reader!

Yep. It's just that easy... so, if you haven't switched yet... you should do it soon!

Strawberries and Daisies

Sounds like Summer, doesn't it? *grin*

Last year... sometime around August, I had received Kathy Schmitz's Newletter in my e-mail. In the newsletter, she offered (for subscriber's only) a Bird In Hand blackwork strawberry pinkeep kit. You know I got me one! :-) It wasn't until this morning that I finally got it all finished... and tried for about an hour to get a good pic of it. This is as good as I can get the pic... so I apologize for the blurries... the background fabric has a tea stained crackle look about it... and the button on top is a black fabric with tiny cream dots on it. Great design and great kit!  I filled it with crushed walnut shells... it's about 4" high and 2" wide.

Now for some daisies... in glass ball jars!!! How perfect for Summer is that? Well... Anne over at Cottons and Wool had a Giveaway not too long ago. It was for a wool kit called "Just Picked Table Runner" that was very generously donated by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings... I was the lucky gal who was picked as the winner to receive this awesome kit! Thanks so much Anne!!! I'll be stitching on it this weekend!

Anne also took the time to post some wonderful pictures from quilt market on her blog... so, grab a cup or glass of something refreshing, click here, and relax and enjoy some great eye candy!

Well... we had some soaking rains from a tropical storm that blew through here yesterday and last night. I'm all for playing in the dirt (gardening) but, I do not play in the mud.. lol! So, it's sweet stitchin' time for this gal today... :-)

Until next time... stay healthy and keep on smiling!
